Shirley Childers Obituary

Shirley Ann (Miller) Childers, 82, of Bunker Hill passed away on Thursday, August 18th, 2022 at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo.

She was born December 26, 1939 in Peru, IN to John Quinter Miller and Alice (Boatman) Miller.  She married Ronald Childers on August 24, 1958 and he survives.

Shirley built a loving home and her kitchen was known for delicious homemade meals and treats.  She retired after 30 years of service from Delco Electronics but her legacy and life’s purpose was to serve God and others with joy and compassion.  She worked in many youth programs at Loree Brethren Church and was a leader of the local chapter in the Awana youth organization.  She could also be found visiting shut-ins and delivering assistance to those in need. Her daughters and grandkids can testify how much she loved spreading the word of God as recipients of countless cards and letters that were filled with her favorite scriptures and devotions.  A student recently shared how special she felt when Shirley made a house visit to share God’s word with her.  Another student knew she wanted to raise her children in a Godly home because of the love Shirley showed her.  Shirley lived a life of service to God’s kingdom and was an inspiration to all she touched.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her children, Deb Barnett (Bill), Patty Lorenz (Randy), Teresa Grove (Rich); 7 grandchildren, Matt Barnett (Jaclyn), Ben Barnett (Amy), Elise Yoder (Jerome), Kelci Fox (Jared), Audrey Hults (Cayne), Mitch Grove (Ellis) and Adam Grove (Hayley); 11 great grandchildren, Caleb, Lilly and Lincoln Barnett (Matt), Declan Barnett (Ben), Kinley and Brooke Yoder (Elise), Colton Fox (Kelci), Fynnleigh, Riley and Cayden Hults (Audrey).

Shirley is also survived by three sisters, Susie Hart (Charlie), Karen Brown (Homer), Sandy Miller (Chester).

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Chester Miller.

Visitation will be held at Bennett Switch Community Church, 2261 IN-18, Kokomo, Indiana, on August 26, 2022 from 11am-1pm.  Funeral service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating.  Burial will take place at Rankin Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.
