Robert Douglas “Doug” Richmond, 85, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis.
He was born on April 18, 1934 at Maplewood, West Virginia to Robert Thomas and Lorene Florence (Neely) Richmond. On April 7, 1966, he married Janet Lou Derringer Holler Richmond at the First Baptist Church Chapel, officiated by James Finkbinder. Janet preceded him in death on April 1, 2012.
Doug retired from the Square D Company on July 1, 1996 after 30 ½ years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peru. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Masons Peru, and Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne.
He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Management. He attended Ball State University and graduated from the School of Business.
He served in the United States Navy from September 17, 1952 to September 9, 1956 active duty, and served four years in the U.S. Naval Reserves from September 17, 1956 to September 17, 1960, at which time he was honorably discharged.
He is survived by his son Brian Richmond of Peru, stepson Robert Holler and wife Doreen of Peru, and step-daughter-in-law Ginny Holler of Peru; as well as grandchildren: Justin Lee Holler (Rose) of Warsaw, Mellissa Holler of Logansport, Alexis Nutt (Craig) of Peru, Bobby Holler of Peru, Molly Holler (Carter) of Roann, Kim Dressel (Michael) of Fort Wayne, Michelle Seymoure (Pat) of Upland, and Rob Sucharski of Peru; and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Darrell Richmond (Willie) of Tampa, FL and Daniel “Dean” Richmond (Adela) of North Carolina; and sisters Janet Ramona Via of San Antonio, TX, and Drema Lois Edwards (Dickie) of Hinton, WV. Also, nieces Brenda Weaver (Terry) of Peru, and Rhonda Trexler (Todd) of Peru; and nephew Billy Meadows (Kelly) of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a stepson Bill Holler, and three sisters Jacqueline Richmond, Yvonne Keaton, and Jeanette Meadows.
Visitation will be held from 3pm – 7pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Peru, 53 East Main Street, Peru, Indiana, with Pastor Robert Adelsperger officiating, and visitation starting one hour prior. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana. Military service will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
