Richard L. “Dick” Tyler, 77 of Peru, In entered into eternal life at 12:30am on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Home Hospice in Ft. Wayne. He was born April 24, 1934 in Peru to Perry and Anna (Newburn) Tyler. He was married to Beverly Sue Ricker Blair Tyler on July 27, 1974 and she survives. Also surviving are sisters Rose Brannum, Violet Edmonds, and Carol Hutchison, all of Peru, and sister-in-law Martha Tyler of Wabash. He was preceded in death by parents and sister Annie Conley, and brothers Floyd, Walter, James, Charles and John. Dick was a graduate of Peru high School. He attended Wabash Valley Vocational School where he took small engine repair. He was a member of the Peru Moose and Peru Eagles, where he was a Golden Eagle. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Circus City Beverage and retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation, where he worked for 15 years. After his retirement, he operated a small engine repair business until the time of his illness. He is survived by wife and children Diana Smiley of Peru, Rhonda Elks of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Amy Blair Hiers of Peru (Bob), and Rick Blair (Angelika) of Germany. Granchildren Jennifer Smiley Workman of Peru, Stephanie Swiler (John) of Colorado, Steven Critchfield, Nashville TN, Melyssa Critchfield Evans (Bryson) of Nashville TN, Jonathan Smiley, (Angela) Columbus GA, Nicole Hiers Clark (Paul) of Peru, Eric Hiers, (Ashley Ramer fiance) Peru. Great grandchildren Bradley Swiler, Japan, Tasha Swiler, Colorado, Tiffany Workman, Peru, Abigale Hawkins, Nashville TN, Aiden Smiley, Columbus GA, Alyssa Hiers, Peru, and 2 great-great grandchildren Kaysin Workman and Devon Swiler. He also has several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2012 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru, from 3:00-6:00pm. Pastor Phil Cruea will officiate at 6:00pm followed by a Military Committal Service. Family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Ft. Wayne, In 46814.
