David L. “Dave” “Dilly” Dillman passed away suddenly Monday morning, May 18, 2015, with family members present. He was born November 24, 1947, in Peru, Indiana. David was the third son of Glen and Ora Dillman and is survived by his brother John.
David grew up regularly attending the Center Chapel Brethren Church with his family. He attended school at Chili and was graduated from North Miami High School in 1965. He went on to earn an associate degree from International Telephone and Telegraph Services in Electrical Engineering in 1970. This opened the door to a position in electrical manufacturing and supervision with the Square D in Peru.
Dave’s life growing up on a farm near Chili gave him a deep appreciation for rural Indiana and the community of friends that meant so much to him. He never tired of watching crops poke up through the ground in the spring and enjoyed watching them grow to maturity in the fall. A call from distant family members would inevitably be an invitation to listen to stories about the wonders of Miami County life.
David had many interests. He always had time for a day at the lake fishing with a buddy or an early morning squirrel hunt. To him a warm sunny day in the summer was a perfect excuse to call some friends and take off on his Harley to explore the back roads of northern Indiana. Many times someone would call asking for assistance with an electrical problem; David was off to see how he could help. And, there was always time to meet friends at the Peru Maennerchor for a competitive game of cards.
There will be a viewing at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru, Indiana, Friday from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Immediately following will be a memorial service led by Pastor Dan Tucker. Dave will be laid to rest in the Paw Paw Methodist Church cemetery surrounded by the farms he loved and in the shadow of a country church. May his body rest in peace and his spirit rest in the hands of God.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
Burial Date: May 22, 2015
