William (Ed) Ray Obituary

William (Ed) Ray passed away at home on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, surrounded by his family in McAlester, Oklahoma.

He was born on May 26, 1946 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Freddie B. and Eunice Ray.  On October 25, 1968, he married Dianne Blythe.  She survives.

Survivors also include his sons Michael Ray of RedBud, Illinois, Dwayne Ray of McAlester, Oklahoma, daughter Trena Raby (Todd) of Michigan; grandchildren Dirk Ray (fiancee Shanice), Tasha (Jake) McCoy, Dayne Ray, Lakin Ray, Kristen Raby; great-grandchildren Drewgin Ray, Alexis Ray, Edward Ray, Ezekiel Ray, Elizabeth Ray; step great-grandchildren Marley Dawkins and Shaun Patterson.  Also surviving are brothers Fred Jr. (Leeta) Ray, Jerry (Cathy) Ray; and sisters Ella Summers, Gracie (Doug) Krueger, Jenny (James) Howard, Brenda (Philip) Read, Shirley (Terry) Dick, and Debbie (Tom) Houlihan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Herschel), one sister (Kirsteen), and one great-grandchild.

Ed worked civil service at Grissom Air Force Base until being transferred to McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, where he retired.  His love of life was his dogs and grandchildren.  He coached baseball in Bunker Hill, Indiana for 10 years, then coached his great-grandchildren Drewgin and Alexis Ray in Peru, Indiana.

Visitation will be held from 2pm – 5pm on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, September 28, 2020 at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Loft officiating. Military service will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.  Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.
