Walter Woodhams Obituary

Walter Bernard Woodhams, 89, of Peru, passed away at 1:45am on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Blair Ridge Health Campus.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 5, 1930 to Walter James and Elly (Latkow) Woodhams.  He married his college sweetheart, Dorothy “Dottie” Supject on June 7, 1952, and she survives.  A graduate of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan, Walt was an industrial engineer, and was the president and founder of Woodcrest Manufacturing in Peru.  He also served in the United States Army and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Walt was a man of many interests.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening – especially roses – and woodworking.  In his later years, he was dedicated to saving the endangered monarch butterflies.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie, and their children: Walter Anthony “Wally” Woodhams of Peru, Mark Loring Woodhams (Sally Black) of Peru, David Michael (wife Wanda) Woodhams of West Lafayette, John Robert (wife Pamela) Woodhams of Peru, and son-in-law Tim Schultheis of Gurnee, Illinois; as well as eight grandchildren: Nicole Schultheis, Robert “Robbie” (wife Carly) Schultheis, Amy Woodhams (fiancé John Elbin), Alex Woodhams, Allison (husband Lucas) Bulchak, Benjamin Woodhams, Michael (wife Stephanie) Woodhams, and Anthony "AJ"  Woodhams.  Also surviving are sisters Betty Smith of California, and Margaret Roderick of Fort Myers, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Anne Louise (Woodhams) Schultheis.

Visitation will be held from 10am – 11am on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 West 5th Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral mass will follow at 11am, with Father Adam Mauman officiating.  A private burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
