Terry Lee Black, of Peru, Indiana, at the age of 78, passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Terry was born on May 3, 1946 to Carl and Lucille (Lesley) Black in Peru, Indiana. He attended Peru and Mexico elementary schools and attended Peru High, but graduated from North Miami High School in 1964. Terry also went to Manchester College for one year.
After college, Terry worked at Delco Electronics for 23 years. He also worked at Square D Corporation for 16 years, retiring in 2008.
In 1972 Terry married Janette Hobbs from Kokomo, but later divorced. Although he had no children, he had a lot of “fur babies” in his life. Terry loved all animals, especially his cats Gracie and Layla, and still grieved for his dogs, Maggie and Bozo.
Terry’s hobbies were reading (he read hundreds of books) and watching movies. He really liked the Civil War and WW2 eras. He belonged to the Civil War Trust that preserved battlefields. He also liked sports (NASCAR, Colts, Cubs, IU Basketball, Notre Dame Football). Also he loved working hard crossword puzzles and liked watching Car Auction on tv. Terry liked listening to classic rock and roll and loved the blues.
Terry served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was an active member of the Moose. He also was the family genealogist and thanks to his good friend, Cheryl Kerschner, traced his family back to the 1600’s.
He is survived by his sisters, Lana Bullock and Jayne Black, both of Peru. Also surviving are six nephews and nieces. Terry loved his God and his family very much. He also loved and appreciated all of his friends who were dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother (Wayne) and a nephew (Aaron).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 4:00pm followed by a gathering of friends and family from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.
