Sarah M. (Sillings) Stevens

Sarah M. Stevens, 93, of Peru, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at The Waters of Peru.

Sarah was born on September 29, 1929 in Wickliff, Indiana, to Samuel and Mary (Young) Sillings. She married Edward B. Stevens on August 7, 1949 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1992.

Sarah was the owner of Stevens Shoe Store. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Women’s Golf Association. She enjoyed playing golf and going to the casino with friends. Her good fortune continued as she dominated the Bingo scene during her time at The Waters. Sarah was most recently voted “The 2023 Sweetheart Queen” while she resided there. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sarah is survived by her children: Mark (Gale) Stevens of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Teresa (Dave) Henrion of Morganton, North Carolina, Dave (Cindy) Stevens, and Jeff “Moe” (Kay) Stevens all of Peru, Indiana. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Daniel (Sue) Stevens of South Bend, Indiana, Matt (Erin) Stevens of Mishawaka, Indiana, Jeremy Howard of Redding, California, Erica (Jeff) Coomer , Jessie Stevens, and Jacob Stevens all of Peru, Indiana, and Nikki (David) Manchester of Bunker Hill, Indiana, and six great-grandchildren: Logan and Lily Stevens, Abby and Ava Stevens, Everly Coomer, and Cole Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Earl Sillings and Lee Sillings, and sister Lucy Cutlip.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm with Pastor Dustin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
