Robert E. Johnson, 59, of Peru, Indiana, passed away at home on Friday, July 4, 2025. He was born on April 1, 1966, in Peru to the late Johnny Ray and Phyllis Ann (Leedy-Conner) Johnson.
A proud United States Army veteran, Robert served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty, loyalty, and quiet strength throughout his life. Known for his calm demeanor and steady presence, he was always ready with a quick joke or dry remark to bring a smile to someone’s face.
Robert worked for many years at Guyer the Mover, where he was known as a dependable and hardworking presence. He took pride in his work and valued the friendships he formed with his coworkers and clients alike.
He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Peru, where he found comfort in the company of familiar friends and neighbors.
Robert was a devoted husband and partner to Pamela J. Johnson (Cox) for 30 years and a loving stepfather to Joanie Barnes of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Kimberly Rakestraw of Peru, Indiana. One of his greatest joys in life was being “Grandpa.” He was a proud and doting grandfather to four grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter—nothing lit up his face quite like time spent with them.
He had a soft spot for the smallest souls—especially dogs and babies. Though he often carried himself with quiet toughness, he was quick to melt into mush when one of his little dogs jumped into his lap or when a baby was placed in his arms. His love for them was pure, gentle, and unwavering.
Robert is survived by his wife, Pamela; his stepdaughters, Joanie and Kimberly; his siblings, John M. Johnson of Leesville, LA; Beth Ann Harris of Sebring, OH; Bonita Sue Cochran of Bunker Hill, IN; and Brian Lee Johnson of Peru, IN; as well as his nieces, Maria Harris, Tanya Pearson, Yolanda Zehring, and Soneya Lynn; his nephew, Johnny Ray Johnson; and several cousins and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kevin Eugene Johnson, Tanya Kay Johnson, and Terry Allen Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held in Robert’s honor. Details will be shared with family and friends privately.
