Robert L. Cassel

Robert L. Cassel, 84, of Peru, Indiana, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born in Peru on July 5, 1935 to John W. and Pauline V. Seigfred Cassel.

Bob spent several years working for the Peru Community School System.  He enjoyed meeting his buddies at the Smoke House to play cards, visiting casinos, and buying or selling his wares at flea markets.

He is survived by niece Judy Michalek and husband Ed of Peru, nephew Steve Cassel and wife Susan of Peru, sister-in-law Lu Cassel-Mikesell of North Manchester, and nephews Mark, Greg, Jeff, Phil, and Tony Cassel, nieces Kimberly Cassel Miller and Hope Cassel Jeffers, and nephew Samuel (Skip) Benge of Deedsville; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Eileen Cassel Benge and Catherine Cassel Holler, and four brothers John C. Cassel, Paul Eugene Cassel, Jerry W. Cassel, and James E. Cassel.

Bob served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960.  If you wish to donate in Bob’s memory, please do so to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.

A celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Lu Cassel-Mikesell will officiate.  Military service will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana at a later date.
