Richard "Rick" Timmons Obituary

The family of Richard “Rick” Timmons of Peru, Indiana, is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at the age of 74 years.

Rick was born on January 3rd, 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado, to the late Maxine and Francis Timmons.  As a child, Rick very much enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout while his mom volunteered as a Den Mother.  Rick graduated from Pueblo’s Central High School in 1967. After graduation Rick joined the United States Air Force. Rick was a Vietnam Veteran and was honorably discharged from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a Master Sergeant in 1988 after serving 20 years.  Rick enjoyed keeping in touch with some of his military brothers.  After his military retirement, Rick worked for Hoosier Tire in Plymouth, IN, where he retired in 2011.

Rick leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Doris (Cowan) Timmons, Peru, IN; his children David (Tina) Timmons, Pamela (Jon) Ridderhof, and Paula Timmons; his stepdaughters Tracy (Ron) Hoshaw and Tammi (Phil) Kegerreis.  Rick was a very proud grandfather to his 7 grandchildren: Jordan Ridderhof, Chace Ridderhof, Evan Ridderhof, Briana Timmons, Logan Hoshaw, Quinn Kegerreis, and Kenna Kegerreis. He is also survived by his brother, Lee Timmons, and sister, Shirley Little.

Mid-life, Rick took up the great sport of golf and had some wonderful golf buddies he looked forward to seeing on the course.  Rick was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed every single cowboy movie ever made.  Upon moving to Indiana, he also quickly became an Indiana Hoosiers Basketball fan. Rick enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, grilling out, and going on vacations.

Rick was a longtime member of the Zion Chapel Church of Peru.  Once serving as a church Elder, he enjoyed visiting with church members who were unable to attend Sunday service, taking Bible study classes, and seizing any opportunity to sing.

To say Rick was a character would be an understatement.  He would wave and say hello to absolutely everyone.  Whether you are near him in a store, pass him on the street, eating near him at a restaurant, or spotted out of the car window, he was always hollering greetings to those around him.  If you didn’t already know him, you would either soon know him or be left wondering who that guy was who just waved and wished you a blessed day.

A visitation will be held 12pm – 2pm Saturday, March 25th, 2023 at Zion Chapel Church (915 S. Broadway Ave, Peru). The memorial service will be held at 2pm at the church immediately following visitation. The burial service will then follow at Mount Hope Cemetery (411 North Grant St, Peru).
