Phyllis Joan Garber, 85, Peru, stepped into glory at 2:00AM Friday, November 11, 2016 at Hickory Creek in Peru.
She was born January 23, 1931 to James R. and Martha C. (Fisher) Boyer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Vern D. Garber. They were married March 15, 1952.
Joan graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1949. She was an avid homemaker and found great joy in taking care of her husband, children and grand-children. She also enjoyed cooking, working outside and cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers. She was a member of the McNeeley Christian Church of Lewisberg. She was also a proud member of the Deer Creek Do-Ettes Homemakers Club.
Joan is survived by her three sons, James “Jamie” Garber (Sue), Peru, Jeff Garber (Teresa), Kokomo, Jason Garber and Lisa Kellar, Peru. Eight grandchildren, Vanessa Smith (David), Chad King (Liz), Laura Brock (Wes), Tyler Garber, Todd Garber (Johanna), Sarah Garber, Caitlyn King, and Gabriel Garber. Seven great-grandchildren, Riley and Reese Smith, Corbin and Chelsea King, Cole Garber, Miles Garber and Lani Brock. She is also survived be her only sister Donna Oldfather of Peru.
Special family members include Tim Oldfather (Patty), Randy Oldfather (Sara), Julie Cumming (Bill), Dennis Boyd (Joretta), Indianapolis, Phyllis Basore (Neal), Modesto, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Oldfather, Peru.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 10:00AM at the Allen Funeral Home, 136 S Elm St, Bunker Hill, with Pastor Roger Smith officiating. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery, Bunker Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2pm to 7pm. Memorials may be made the McNeeley Christian Church of Lewisberg through the Allen Funeral Home.
