Nola Betzner Obituary

Mom was called home by her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

Nola Jane Betzner was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on February 11, 1935 to the late William R. and Genevive (Richards) Smith. She married James “Jim” William Betzner on September 24, 1967. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2019.

Nola proudly served her country in the United States Army as a medic/WAC/AMED. She was a Korean War veteran. Nola was a member of the Eastern Star, American Red Cross, Bunker Hill Fish and Game Club, Pipe Creek Fire Department Women’s Auxillary, and American Legion Post #15. She loved fishing, playing the piano at church, enjoying their lake cabin, quilting, and sewing. Nola was an EMT and CPR instructor and she also taught American Red Cross basic aid training for Miami County 4th graders. Nola attended the FreeWill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She loved her family and was the happiest when children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gathered at her home.

She is survived by her children; Mr. & Mrs. William Betzner, Annetta Simmons, Mr. & Mrs. Rex Betzner, Mary Hewitt, Mr. & Mrs. Max Betzner, Mr. & Mrs. Scott Bailey (Catherine Hewitt), Mr. & Mrs. Chris Betzner, Julia Bischoff, and Mr. & Mrs. James R. Betzner. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 3 brothers; Dick Barnett of Alabama, Don Barnett and Keith Smith both of Kokomo.

Nola is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, RaeJean Hawk, 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and brothers; Wallace Smith, Bill Smith, and Jack Barnett.

Visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home, 136 South Elm Street, Bunker Hill. The funeral service will begin at 11am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 with Pastor Bill Sheets officiating. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana. Military Rites will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.

In Nola’s honor, memorial contributions may be given to the Bunker Hill Freewill Baptist Church, Indiana Patriot Guard, and the American Red Cross.

The family would like to thank Elara Caring Hospice and Angels of Mercy for their dedicated care. A special thanks is also due for Pastor Bill Sheets, Bunker Hill Freewill Baptist Church, and Emmanuel Fellowship Church for their prayers, music, and many visits.
