Nelson Sloan Obituary

Nelson Verle Sloan, 55, of Peru, Indiana passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 after battling cancer.

He was born February 23, 1970 in Macy, Indiana to Verle Sloan and Sandra (Jines-Decker) Sloan. He was born and raised on his parents farm and attended North Miami schools.

For those that knew him, he was most known for his generosity (he was always willing to help a friend in need) and his impressive snowman collection. He worked many odd jobs including factory work, delivering newspapers, and even spent a summer traveling with the circus. He was a member of McGrawsville Community Church in Amboy. Nelson truly believed in the importance of kindness and greeted everyone he met with acceptance and compassion.

When he was married to his former wife, in 1998, he welcomed his only daughter, Bianca Theeonn (Sloan) Hobbs into the world and was an incredibly proud father. Some of his favorite moments were watching her on stage, and he was always proud of her accomplishments as a teacher. He loved his many nieces and nephews, as well as many of his “adopted” nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra (Jines-Decker) Sloan (Louisiana); grandparents James Arthur “Jim” Jines (Peru); Lloyd and Helen (Jines) Hein; Jessie Nelson and Altha Faye (Branstator) Sloan (Macy) and brother, Henry Albert “Al” Decker Jr. (Peru).

Nelson was survived by his daughter, Bianca (Sloan) Hobbs, spouse Abigail (Illinois); father, Verle Sloan (Louisiana); sister, Lisa Decker (Peru); brother Jim Decker (Peru); sister Cindy (Sloan) Tyler, spouse Jeramey (Huntington); brother Lee David Sloan, spouse, Lisa (Alabama); brother Chad Sloan, spouse Amanda (Louisiana); sister, Suzan Sloan (Peru); and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local food banks or Harvesting Capabilities in Peru, IN to benefit the local community. Donation arrangements can be made through Flowers-Leedy in Peru, IN.
