Neal Wayne Birner

Neal Wayne Birner, 62, passed away November 11, 2025 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the presence of his children and grandchildren.

He was born on November 19, 1962 in Peru, Indiana to Sam and Eclista (Mongosa) Birner. Neal attended Peru Community Schools. He worked for Big R for many years and went on to own his own business, “Birner’s Home Improvement”. He enjoyed remodeling houses and working on anything with a motor. He was a true handyman. Neal loved nothing more than a good project-especially when it was done his way. He could build anything and fix everything. He will be missed dearly by his family and will always be known as a hard- working and strong willed man. Neal was a member of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana and the Moose.

He is survived by his children, Shallyn (Daniel) Garbaciak, Curtis Birner, and Jennifer Rairigh; grandchildren, Thomas (Cheyenne) Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Kamren Johnson, Spencer Stapleton, Thaxton Rairigh, and Ace Rairigh; and great grandchildren, Sawyer Johnson; and loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Neal is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Eclista (Mongosa) Birner, brothers, Joseph Birner and Michael Birner and grandchild, Cole Taylor.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.
