Nancy Jo (Metcalfe) Cover

Nancy Jo Cover, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 27. She was born on June 3, 1946, in Peru, Indiana to the late James and Lula Mae Metcalfe.

The youngest of five children, Nancy was preceded in death by her siblings: Janice Mesaros, Ella Ruth Warren, Fred Metcalfe, and Becky Iliff.

Nancy grew up with a sense of adventure, often found riding bikes and playing baseball, kick-the-can, red rover, and tag with her lifelong friend Vicky Brooks and the neighborhood boys. She cherished time with her Grandma Rogers and loved fishing with her dad, who affectionately called her “Sis”.

After high school Nancy pursued her passion at Huffer Beauty College. For 44 years, she worked as a hairstylist - a dream she had held since the age of 12. Her work brought her joy and countless friendships.

Nancy was a devoted and loving mother to Dennis Cassel and Tammy Blackwell. She always placed their needs above her own, encouraging them to dream big and experience more than she had. Her selflessness and support shaped their lives deeply.

In 1979 Nancy met and married the love of her life, Jerry Cover. She welcomed his daughters, Brandi Cover and Amber Othersen, into her heart and embraced the joys and challenges of the blended family.  Together, Nancy and Jerry built a life full of love, laughter, and shared adventures. They enjoyed dancing, boating, camping, playing golf, and being the biggest cheerleaders of their grandchildren’s lives. Later Nancy and Jerry became snowbirds, spending the winters in Inverness, Florida.

Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry; her children: Dennis, and Tammy and son-in-law, Dean; her stepdaughters: Brandi and Amber and their partners; eight grandchildren; five great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of cherished friends. Her warmth, kindness, and spirited personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2pm on Friday, May 30, 2025. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contribution be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
