Mary Jane Ashbrook, 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 3, 2023.
She was born on July 16, 1934, in Peru, Indiana to John Carl and Nellie F. (Mohler) Earhart. Mary was married to Harold N. “Hardy” Ashbrook, on July 26, 1952. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2010.
She was a 1952 Peru High School graduate. Mary retired from the Indiana State Police in 1986. She was a part time secretary for the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association and a member of the Women of the Moose, Manitou, Indiana #1684 and Ladies Auxilary, VFW, #2067.
Mary and her husband spent winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida until his death. She spent several summers at Lake Manitou. Mary loved music, roses, animals, and her cherished friends.
She is survived by a son, Andrew D. Ashbrook and wife, Carla of Peru, two daughters; Cynthia M. Kinzie Bowers and husband, Jay of Denver, Indiana, Toni Weideman and husband, David of Kokomo, Indiana, five granddaughters; Dawn M. Kutza of Bloomington, Indiana, Cori Knight and husband, Michael, of Macy, Indiana, Jaclyn “Jaci” France and husband, Lee, of Macy, Indiana, Alison Ashbrook of New York City, and Emily Kellie and husband, Jaron, of Danville, Illinois, eight great grandchildren; Madison Haws and her husband, Lucas, Makinzie and Calie France, Alexander Kutza, Owen Knight, Finley, Lucy, and Kennedy Kellie, one great great grandchild, Tobias Haws, a brother, Fred Earhart and wife Loretta, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Pansy (Brooks) Earhart, husband, brother, Robert Earhart, sister, Marjorie Spencer, step-sister, Norma Biddle, and son-in-law, Dick Kinzie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 11am to 2pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Richard Olson officiating. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Miami County Helping Hands, St. Vincent de Paul, or the Macy Community Booster.
