Mary Williams Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Mary Ann Williams, at age 81 on July 4, 2023, following a long illness.

She was born to Tom and Lena Mae Bevan on December 30, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland. She had an arduous childhood, but turned herself around and went to college in Baltimore, where she met and married her late husband, Edward Lee Williams, who was enlisted in the U.S. Army. As they traveled around the world, they raised 5 children: Robert G. Black, Jr. from Fort Pierce, Florida, Tina L. Drake and her family from Peru, Indiana, Melissa Elsner and her family from Waynesville, Missouri, Randy Black and his family from Augusta, West Virginia, and the youngest, Brenda D. Williams, who predeceased her. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was a caring grandmother and great-grandmother to 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She cherished each and every one of us to her last breath.

After Dad passed away in 2001, Mom went to school and became a real estate agent. She truly enjoyed helping families in her community find their new home, and she was excellent at it. She even gained a few friends along the way. When she retired from real estate, she found a new calling in the community closer to home. She was a crossing guard at her grandchildren’s school. She was so fond of the kids on her corner that she even made them gift bags with treats and goodies at Christmas time before they went on holiday break. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays as she loved having all her family around her. She spent all year shopping on QVC for just the right gift for each family member. And when I say all year, I mean 24/7, 365, and she knew her UPS driver by his first name and gave him gifts as well. QVC has no idea that they just lost their #1 customer.

Mom was very much at the forefront of the political landscape, loved listening to ABBA music on loop for hours, especially “Dancing Queen” when she cleaned the house, and absolutely adored great food. She was very particular about how her food was prepared. If you got it right, she commended and thanked you graciously. But, if you got it wrong, she was certainly going to explain in minute detail the correct way it should be done. And we love her dearly for it!

With that said, there will be a Celebration of Her Beautiful Life on July 23, 2023, from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home located at 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana 46970.

Mom will be laid to rest on September 1, 2023, at 11:00am, with her late husband, Eddie, and her daughter, Brenda, at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery located at 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
