Mary Jane Stogsdill, 89, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 7:54 pm.
She was born on October 26, 1932 in Decatur, Illinois to Clifton F. Sr. and Georgianna (Kropf) Martin. On August 17, 1951 she married Claude R. Stogsdill in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2001.
She graduated in 1950 from Cerro Gordo High School as the class valedictorian; she was also the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. She worked alongside her husband in the Brethren church ministry for 44 years. She led a Girl Scout troup. From 1970-1980, she was employed by the Warsaw Community Schools. She was a member of the Loree Brethren Church where she served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, VBS director and president of the Women’s Missionary Society.
Survivors include four sons, Donald R. Stogsdill, Tippecanoe; Kerry L. (Dana) Stogsdill, Warsaw; Douglas M. (Vickey) Stogsdill, Peru; and David K. Stogsdill, Greenwood; two daughters, Sheryl D. Spurrier (Rene Bloom Jr.), South Bend and Teresa A. Mitchell, Indianapolis.
She also leaves behind a brother Roger L. (Nancy) Martin of Windcrest, Texas; two sisters, Judith A. Durbin and Linda S. (Robert) Tirpak, both of Cerro Gordo, Illinois; sisters-in-law Valeria Martin, Linda Martin, and Nancy Born Martin, of Cerro Gordo, Illinois; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald D. Martin, Clifton F. Martin Jr., Michael D. Martin, and Harold Lee Martin, a sister, Dorothy M. Richardson and her husband Raymond; sister-in-law, Norma J. Martin, brother-in-law, Gene Durbin, two grandsons, twins Adam and Alex Stogsdill, great-grandson Quinn Chatterton and great- granddaughter, Payton Ann Stogsdill.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 4pm-8pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11am with Pastor Lorie Keck and Pastor Steve Zerbe officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
