Mary Annie (Birks) Burt

Mrs. Mary Annie Burt was born in Nettleton, Mississippi, unto the late Kathie Lee (Griffin) Birks and Oliver James Birks on September 12, 1932.

She departed this life at her home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 with her family by her side.

She married Carson Burt on July 26, 1950 and he preceded her in death on January 16, 2006. Together they had seven children. She was a member of Wayman AME Church in Peru. She was retired from United Technologies and did various house cleaning jobs.

She played basketball in her younger years and was a very good player. She enjoyed watching her children play sports and gave them support. She was a very personable person and she never met a stranger. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Edward (Candi) Burt, Michael (Kathy) Burt, Willie (Kathy) Burt, all of Peru, Indiana and one son who passed away, Carson Junior Burt. Three daughters, Mary Burt, Bobbie Burt, and Betty (Burt) Sleeper all of Peru, Indiana.

Her siblings preceded her in death Modean (Birks) Merritt and Lee Ellis Birks (Lou). She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great- grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Zion Chapel Church, 915 South Broadway, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will begin at 1:00pm with burial to follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
