Kathy Sue Shank

Kathy Sue Shank, 68, Peru, passed away July 11, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 23, 1955 in Salina, Kansas to Hubert “Bud” and Janet East. She married her high school sweetheart David Shank in 1973, spending her later years with her significant other Barry Hall.

A daughter of a proud military family, Kathy lived in many places including Spain, Kansas, and Ohio before her family settled in Peru, Indiana, graduating from Peru High School class of 1973. She worked all her life, and was best known from her years as an insurance agent with Norris Insurance. She was blessed with so many friends and loved ones. It seemed she knew everyone.

Survivors include her mother Janet Powell, son Justin Cory (Nicola) Shank, daughter Kara Shank, and daughter in law Jennifer (Brandon) Ulerick. Sisters Connie Mofield and Linda (Keith) Robinson, significant other Barry Hall, four grandchildren; Ashlynn (Isabella) O’Donley, Alex Zimdahl, Sommer (Scott) Webb, and Dakota Howell, four great grandchildren; Caroline, Michael, Zoey, and Baby O’Donley – due in October, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Kathy was “Mom” to many of her “other kids” and served as Grandma to all children who entered her life. She was proceded in death by her father Hubert East, step father Fred Powell, and brother-in-law Roscoe Mofield.

Funeral services will be at 11am, Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third St., Peru, with Pastor Rod Correll officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. Friends may call from 4pm to 7pm, Monday, July 17, 2023, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, The Scratching Post, or a charity of your choosing.
