Katherine Lynette Deardorff, known to many as Kathy, was born on September 17, 1947 to Ralph and Ruth Hess in Wabash, Indiana. She passed away March 23, 2025 peacefully and surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and devotion.
Kathy was the loving wife of John Deardorff, cherished mother of Angela Moon and her husband Jeff Moon. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Brady Moon, Tiffani Leary (Noah), Mallory Pack (Jonathan), Reylee Moon (Terrie), Brandi Stults, Austyn, Gabrielle Frazier (Tylor), and Elijah Moon. Kathy was also a doting great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren: Taira, Tanya, Zayden, Isabelle, Jaidyn, Zyler, Josie, Vera, Waylon, Wilkes, Remington, Enzlie, Adie, Houstynn, and Oaklynn. Kathy’s other surviving family includes brother in laws Kerri (Vicky), Mike, and Emerson Deardorff.
She is proceeded in death by her beloved daughter Teresa Lynette Garber, son Shawn Galbraith and her brother, Danny Hess.
Kathy’s life was built on love for her family and a passion for creating cherished memories. She loved spending time with her family, enjoying trips, fishing, camping and shopping on QVC. A longtime member of the VFW Post #2067 Ladies Auxiliary, she enjoyed volunteering and supporting the community. She also found joy in playing with her dog, Cocoa, who brought her comfort and companionship.
Throughout her life, Kathy made an impact through her work, whether at the Peru tribune, where she spent years making connections, or as a cook and waitress at the Corner Kitchen and Breakfast House. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will forever be remembered for her kindness, strength and unshakable devotion to her family.
A celebration of life will be held at Flowers Leedy, Saturday March 29, with visitation beginning at 11am followed by the funeral service at 1pm. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana immediately following the service. The family invites all who knew and loved Kathy to join them in honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VFW Post #2067 in Kathy’s honor.
