Juanita Long Geberin, age 101, loving mother of three and devoted wife to husband Robert Geberin passed away in the early morning hours of May 30, 2022. Born July 11, 1920 in Peru, Indiana to Thomas and Pearl Long, Juanita grew up on the family farm in Macy, IN. She was influenced by her parents and grand-parents to be a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others and using those talents to be a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook, keep house, and being a farm girl at heart, loved to garden. Although legally blind in later life, Juanita could still spot a dandelion in the grass while sitting at her kitchen window enjoying a cup of coffee. She met husband Bob thru mutual friends in Bunker Hill, IN and they were married for 64 years until his death in 2003. During their years of marriage Bob and Juanita had many business adventures that included a grocery store, the Cozy Nook Café on North Broadway, the Little Red Shack Hobby Shop, and Squirrel Foods Wholesale Restaurant Supplies where Juanita was the bookkeeper.
Juanita devoted her life to Christ and her church family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Peru for 73 years. Her passion was local and worldwide mission. Serving as Elder Trustee, Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, PW President, Wabash Presbytery Mission Committee advocate as well as multiple other positions, gave her the opportunity to help build a school in Africa, give mission support to the Appalachian Mountain area as well as many local and statewide projects. Juanita was a 75 year member of Alpha MU Chapter, Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority. She served as local Chapter President, Province President as well as Area Expansion Chairman of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority.
Juanita was predeceased by her husband Bob, daughter Bonita Combs, her beloved grandparents Ambrose and Elizabeth Clark, parents Thomas and Pearl Long, siblings Frederick Long, Charlotte Duncan, James Long, and great-great granddaughter McKinlee.
Juanita is survived by son Terry Geberin (Susie), daughter Elizabeth Edwards (Arthur), sister Markie Edwards (Ted), Grandchildren Randy Combs (Michelle), Marcie Richter, Malissa Strasser (Shaun) and Robert Edwards (Wendy) 11 great- grandchildren, 11 great- great- grandchildren and 1 great- great- great grandchild.
A celebration of Juanita’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Peru, IN on June 3, 2022 at 10:00am with Dr. Mark Perry officiating. Friends may call June 2, 2022 from 4pm to 6pm at Flowers Leedy Funeral Home with a Memorial Service presented by Alpha Mu Chapter following visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1238, Peru, IN. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru, IN.
