Joe Wright Jr. Obituary

Joe C. Wright, 61, of Peru passed away, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born September 15, 1961 to the late Donnie K. Wright and the late Joe C. Wright Senior. Joe served our country in the Army. He worked at Smithfield upon his return to Miami County.

He loved to go fishing any chance he could get and rarely turned down an opportunity to enjoy nature. He was always working on some type of project. Joe was a selfless man that would do anything for anyone. He followed the Bible’s teachings of “Love your neighbor like thyself” and always had a smiling face for anyone he met. He was also a man you could count on; if you needed help with anything at all. If he gave his word, he would find a way to get the job done. Joe was a member of Abundant Life Church of Peru and attended services there regularly. Joe was a husband, brother, and father, but his role as a grandfather was most definitely his favorite pastime. He loved spending time with each and every one of his grandkids and creating memories for them was one of his top priorities. One of his favorite sayings was “Life is so short that we don’t take time to really enjoy family and friends.”

In addition to his loving wife, Sherry Wright, he is also survived by all his children and bonus children. Beth Wright of North Manchester, Brianne Wright of Peru, Jeromie Wright along with wife, Tracey Wright, of Peru, Brandi Wright and husband Jason Uchwal, of Kentucky. Nick Steele along with wife Trisha Steele of Mexico and Sarah Smith with her husband Travis Smith, also of Peru. In addition to his children, he is survived by many grandchildren. Nathaniel Wright of Peru, Jasmine Wright of North Manchester, Jaylin Simpson of Peru, Kaylynn Bennett of Peru, Sasha Uchwal of Kentucky, Cyrus Uchwal of Kentucky, Finn Uchwal of Kentucky, Brody Wright of Peru, Kaeden Wright of Peru, Addelyn Wright of Peru, Silas Wright of Peru, Emma Steele of Mexico, Caleb Steele of Mexico, Aniyah Smith of Peru, Ameliyah Smith of Peru, Achilah Smith of Peru. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is also survived by in laws, Ann and Albert Lawson of Peru, brother-in-law, Duely Lawson and wife Terri of Akron, Lori Goshert of Peru, survived by sisters and brother, Teresa, Barb, and Vicky and a brother Dave. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and bonus father, Joe Cecil Wright, Donnie Merritt (former Mosley), Jean Merritt, and a sister Melody Pigford.
