Jerry Lee Jones, 81, of Peru, Indiana passed away on Thursday, May 15th 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 9th 1944 to the late Ruben Jones and the late Flossie Smith Cover.
He married Joanetta “Fay” Townsend on March 27, 1964 and she preceded him in death. Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from Northwestern Schools in Howard County, Indiana. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially building things from wood and making fishing lures. He loved to fish and had many great memories of trips to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee with his two sons. When he wasn’t fishing, you could find him on a golf course. Even in recent years when he could no longer play, he enjoyed watching the opens on TV.
Jerry was a master on a grill. He loved to BBQ for his family and friends. You couldn’t have found a man more devoted to his family than he was. He always gave his very best, which is more than they could have asked for.
Above all else, he was devoted to God. He had read the Bible from cover to cover several times. He was a faithful member of Zion Chapel Church in Peru, Indiana and rarely missed a Sunday service if he could help it.
Survivors include his loving son, Jeff (Mary) Jones, grandsons, Dustin Jones (Cassie Herrick), Braxton (Codi) Jones, granddaughters, Bobbi (Marcus) Brown, Kasey (Jamie) Williams, Sara Anderson, and Kelly (Marlin) Kuhns. There are also several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his dog, Lola whom he loved and spoiled rotten.
Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Geda Garling, his brother, Ernest “Leon” Jones, and a son Jerry Lee Jones II.
