Janice Kay Davenport, 84, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, surrounded by loving family.
Janice, known to many as Jay, was born March 1, 1942, to the late Robert Preston Scott and the late Lucile Ledora Ricks.
The youngest of five siblings, all of whom preceded her in death, Jay graduated from Peru High School in Peru, Indiana. She lived in Indiana until 1977, when she moved to South Carolina. No matter where life took her, Jay always called Peru home.
On May 29, 1959, Jay married her high school sweetheart, Robert Howard Davenport. Together, they raised three children: Robert Davenport (Terri), Sandra (Davenport) Clark (Dale), and Ronald Davenport, who preceded her in death.
A homemaker, talented artist, and accountant and secretary for her husband’s business, Jay brought color, beauty, structure, and a sharp wit to all areas of her life. She was a woman of faith and sought God throughout her life.
Jay is also survived by her six grandchildren: Amanda Kay Segedy (Jim), Megan Tharrington (Nick), Crystal Davenport, Jonathan Clark, Levi Davenport, and Cheyenne Campbell (Chase); and eight great-grandchildren.
We look ahead with hope to the day we will reunite with Janice at God’s feet.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Reverend J. Chris Fischer. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 3 PM prior to the service.
A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Denver, Indiana, on Friday July 10, 2026 at 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jay’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to Flowers- Leedy- Allen Funeral Home. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.flowersleedyallen.com.
