Janet Kay (Garbert) Montgomery

Janet Kay (Garbert) Montgomery passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 in Peru, Indiana.

She was born on April 7, 1937 to Chester and Bertha (Hartgrove) Garbert. She grew up in Peru, Indiana and was a graduate of Peru High School, Class of 1956.

She married her sweetheart, Grant “Bud” Montgomery on February 24, 1957 in the First Church of God, Peru, Indiana. They had their first child, Brett in 1963, followed by Brian in 1966. She had active rolls in her church, teaching and ladies ministry. The church was very important to them both. She and Bud were committed to raising their sons to be strong Christian men with Godly virtues like their father.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jane Lutz; brother, Joseph Garbert; sister, Patricia (Beasey) Hamman; and the love of her life, Grant “Bud” Montgomery.

She is survived by sister, Marilyn (Jim) Allen and brother, Larry Garbert; her sons, Brett (April) and Brian; grandchildren: Ryan (April), Amber, Sarah, Hannah, Elaina, and great grandchildren: Jordan, Malynn, Cameron, and Gracie.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Funeral services will follow at 5:00pm with Rev. Rick Horner officiating. Janet will be laid to rest on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:00am at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, an organization that mother felt strongly about.
