James Lee Russell, 73, of Peru, passed away at 7:41am on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Majestic Care in New Haven, Indiana.
He was born in Peru on July 25, 1947 to James A. and Evelyn Lee (Gochenour) Russell. James graduated from Southwood High School in 1965, and subsequently graduated from Purdue University in 1973 with a degree in English (creative writing). He served our country in the United States Army in Vietnam as a paratrooper and a green beret, December 68-69, where he was a 1st Lieutenant in Special Forces. He later worked as a maintenance supervisor, he owned a bicycle shop in Lafayette for about 10 years, and also worked as a pit boss and a dealer in the casinos in Reno. He was also a past Commander of the Peru VFW.
He is survived by a brother David A. Russell, a niece Sarah Sims, nephew Matt Russell, two great-nieces, and many friends of the VFW. James also leaves behind his beloved dog, Zena, and cat, Pinky. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
