Obituary

James Martin Gable left the loving arms of his family on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 9:35pm, at the age of 83 to enter the loving arms of Jesus Christ.

He was born on October 7, 1937 in Miami County, Indiana, the son of Austin and Josephine Gable.  Jim graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1955.  He met and married Marilyn Rife on October 12, 1957.  She predeceased him on July 10, 2016.  He was a lifelong farmer and prior to his retirement, he was employed by Civil Service at Grissom Air Force Base.  He was a member of Bennetts Switch Community Church.

Jim is survived by two children, Deb (Rob) Swihart, West Lafayette, and Jack (Anne) Gable, Peru; four grandchildren, Joshua Swihart (Miryam), Mexico, Melanie Swihart, Muncie, Lyndi (Adam) McDowell, New Haven, and Megan (Dustin) Allen, Noblesville; and three great-grandchildren, Melanie Lua and Marilyn Swihart Hernandez, and Elena McDowell.  He is survived by a brother, Jerry Gable, Peru, a sister Mary Dingman, Shelbyville, and a sister-in-law, Georgia Busch, Wabash.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Joel Busch and Jack Rife.

A private family service will be held.  Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Jim to Bennetts Switch Community Church.
