James Denham, Jr., 93, of Mexico, Indiana passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Dukes Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 3, 1926 in Somerset, KY to the late James F. Denham and Pearl (Brown) Denham. He married Mary Ann (Burton) on October 28, 1946 in Somerset, Kentucky. They had resided in the Peru area since 1948. Mary Ann preceded him in death in 2016 after 69 years of marriage.

James was retired from the C&O Railroad where he was an engineer. He owned farms in both Miami and Delaware counties. James also started his own construction company where he built numerous homes in the Miami County area. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Mexico Baptist Church, UTU Union and Mexico Lion's Club.  James also served 12 years on the Miami County Planning Commission.

He is survived by his son James Denham, III; son Michael Denham and wife Pixie; grandchildren Shelleen (Denham) Dawalt, Lori (Denham) Hahn and husband Judd, Ryan Denham and Alisha Denham; five great-grandchildren; Mackenna Dawalt, Brady and Brooklynn Hahn, Jace and Jaxon Denham. He also is survived by one sister, Norma Jean Montgomery, from Somerset, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Allen Denham; 9 brothers Oscar, Noel, Raymond, Reddish, Howard, Roy Glenn, Charles, Harold and Harry and 5 sisters Georgia, Bersil, Hazel, Dorothy and Beatrice.

James was always known to be building or working on a project. He enjoyed square dancing, camping, attending church and spending time with all of his extended family. He loved taking trips to visit with family and friends. He will be remembered as a very hard working man, always willing to help out those in need.

The visitation and funeral will be held at Mexico Baptist Church, 4088 N. Carroll Street, Mexico, Indiana on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Visitation is from 11 am —1 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm immediately following visitation. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Cole. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Mexico Baptist Church, Mexico, IN.
