James Betzner Obituary

James “Jim” William Betzner, 85, of Bunker Hill, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born in Cass County on April 27, 1934 to Cecil “Jake” Richard Betzner and Elsie Evelyn (Smith) Betzner.  He married Nola Jane (Smith) Betzner on September 24, 1967.  She survives.  Jim worked at the Bunker Hill Elevator, and retired as a custodian at Maconaquah School Corporation.  A Christian man, he was a member of the Center Chapel Church in Peru in his younger years, and later became a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Bunker Hill.  He also served as a volunteer fireman in the Pipe Creek Township Fire Department.  He belonged to the Pioneer Power Tractor Club, as well as the Masonic Lodge in Gilead, Indiana.  He was dedicated to his family, the fire department, his horses... and will be remembered for always giving the biggest hugs!

He is survived by his wife, Nola Jane, as well as their children: Mr. & Mrs. William Betzner, Annetta Simmons, Mr. & Mrs. Rex Betzner, Mary Hewitt, Mr. & Mrs. Max Betzner, Mr. & Mrs. Scott Bailey, Mr. & Mrs. Chris Betzner, Julia Bischoff, RaeJean Hawk, and Mr. & Mrs. James R. Betzner.  Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Richard Betzner, a brother Ronald D. Betzner, a sister Carol Mae Fouts and her husband Dave Fouts, a grandson, and also a great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held from 4pm – 7pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Allen Funeral Home, 136 South Elm Street, Bunker Hill, Indiana.  Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the funeral home, with Pastor Bill Sheets officiating.  Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bunker Hill Freewill Baptist Church and the Pipe Creek Township Fire Department.
