HUBERT “VERLIN” BEVINGTON
May 23, 1930-June 18, 2022
Hubert “Verlin” Bevington of Bunker Hill, Indiana passed peacefully on Saturday, June 18th, 2022. He was 92. Verlin was born to Clarence and Sylvia (Stout) Bevington. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1948. During high school, Verlin lied about his age so that he could work with the railroad and help support his family after the sudden passing of his father.
After combat in the Korean War, Verlin married Velma Jean Searles on December 5, 1953. He retired in 1986 after 38 years at Haynes-Stellite (later Cabot) in Kokomo, Indiana. He was a gifted musician who played guitar and sang in several gospel and country-western bands, and his skills as an amateur electrician and handyman were legendary. He loved airplanes, dogs, games, and solving puzzles. His mind was always sharp, and he enjoyed recounting stories to friends and family. His main focus was on leading people to life in Christ Jesus.
Surviving are his wife; two children, Greg (Kathy) and Donna; two grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremy) Leazenby-Bruce and Derrick Duell; and three great-grandchildren, Ziva, Makaylee, and Rylee; one sister, Carolyn (Bob) Norris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Verlin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Galen, Dale, and Ronald; and three sisters, Maxine, Arlene, and Phyllis.
Visitation will be 11:00 am-1:00 pm Saturday, June 25, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 179 W. Broadway, Bunker Hill, Indiana, with the funeral following at 1:00 pm. Condolences may be sent and full obituary found at www.flowersleedyallen.com.
