Harold Kraning Obituary

Harold Wayne Kraning, 94, of Peru passed away at Blair Ridge Health Campus on Friday, December 16, 2022.

He was born in Mexico, Indiana on April 6, 1928 to the late John and Mabel (Kinzie) Kraning. Harold married Norma Jean Graft on September 4, 1949. They were married 71 years prior to her death on July 1, 2021.

Harold was a life long farmer. He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in Mexico, Indiana and also attended two winter courses at Purdue University. He was a member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren, Indiana Farm Bureau, and the John Purdue Club for many years. Harold was known for his humor and story telling. He gave many humerous speeches and MC-ed different social events, both, here and in Arizona where he and his wife spent their winters for many years. Harold and Norma made many new friends from all over. They thoroughly enjoyed spending the wintertime in the southwest. He always said, he would rather say something that made people smile and laugh rather than something that made them sad. He enjoyed farming and working in the yard, garden, and his woods as a pasttime. He always tried to keep his farm clean and neat. He always enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Harold is survived by his children; Christine (Glen) Jones of Rochester, Indiana, Laraine (Tim) Hudson of Danville, Indiana, Greg Kraning of Peru, Indiana, 4 grandchildren; Michael (Lacey) Jones, Michelle (Jerod) Adler, Andrea (Aaron) Schweizer, Jared Hudson; 8 great grandchildren, and sister, Marcella Hively.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Keith Kraning and sister, Florabel Kraning.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana from 11am to 2pm. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Matt Myers officiating. Burial will take place next to his wife at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana.
