Gerald Scott “Scotty” Fisher, 99, of Peru passed away on August 13, 2023 at Blair Ridge Health Facility.
He was born on October 8, 1923 in Amboy, Indiana to Floyd C. Fisher and Golda Marie (Elshire) Fisher.
He was married to Mary Ann (Hatfield) Fisher, (Deceased) and then married in 1982 to Jesse (Jean) Keirn (Sullivan) Fisher (Deceased).
Scotty served our country in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He owned and operated Fishers Market on South Broadway in Peru until 1964. He retired from C&O Railroad as an engineer.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Peru. Scotty loved his church family. He was lovingly known to his grandchildren as grandpa Choo-Choo.
Scotty is survived by his son, Charley (Jill) Fisher, Peru, two grandchildren; Dustin (Kim) Fisher of Mount Prospect, Illinois and Hayley Rygiec of Peru, six great grandchildren; Griffin, Zoe, and Huxley Fisher and Drew, Stella, and Sophia Rygiec, one sister, Jerri (Gerald) Kunkle, and nephew, Alan (Marie) Kunkle.
Scotty is preceded in death by his parents, two granddaughters; Stacey and Casey Fisher, niece, Karen (Kunkle) Langdon, and step-mother, Virgil (Binkerd) Fisher.
Scotty and his family are grateful to the nurses, staff, and faculty of Blair Ridge and Guardian Angel Hospice for their love and care.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 1pm to 3pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 3pm with Scott Floyd officiating.
