George Mitchell Gutbrod, 70, of Peru passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
He was born in Peru, Indiana on February 16, 1954 to the late Thomas and NorB (Jones) Gutbrod.
George retired from CSX out of Lafayette, Indiana where he made a lot of great friends. If you knew George, you knew of his great love of automobiles and his 1970 Nova. He loved entering it into car shows where he took first place many times. If you knew George long enough you most likely also knew of his Camero which was one of the fastest cars in town. He also loved to fish, go camping, light fireworks, and do anything he could to help others. Everyone always knew they could count on him. Additionally, George also enjoyed going to turkey shoots.
He is survived by his sister, Diana (Elbert York III), nephew, Jason, great nieces and nephews, Mikel York, Trenton York, Mason York, and Emma York. He loved spoiling his nieces and nephews on their birthday and Christmas time.
George is preceded in death by his parents, and niece, Michelle York who passed away on November 19, 2021.
Visitation will be held from 10am to noon on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at noon with Minister Rod Mason officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
