Gary Siders Obituary

Gary Rex Siders, better known as "Rex", began his Journey to Grandfather on November 28, 2013. He was born December 1, 1945 to Edward "Bud" and Lora (Marks) Siders in Wabash, IN. Rex graduated from Peru High School in 1963. He briefly attended Arizona Western University, and was then drafted into the United States Army in 1967 to serve with the 79th Engineer Battalion in Germany. He married Nancy J. Hammond on November 27, 1971. Although they divorced, they remained close friends. He is retired from the Kokomo Post Office in 1992. Rex loved all sports, especially baseball, basketball and football. He played football for Peru High School, and was on numerous basketball, baseball and softball teams well into his 40's. He also bowled on countless bowling leagues throughout the years. Rex was an avid fan of the Cubs, Pacers, Colts & the 1U Hoosiers. He was a very active member of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana, serving as the sub-chief of the Mongosa Clan for over 35 years. Rex was very proud of his Miami Heritage, attending numerous Pow-Wows, Gatherings & Tribal events throughout his childhood into his adult and elder years. He was a respected member of the Tribal Elder and part of the Miami Men's Council. He loved attending family reunions to visit with all his loving cousins, especially the Marks family. Rex leaves behind three children, Aaron Siders and his wife Kiley, Sarah Siders and friend John D. Bitzel, and Adam M. Siders, all of Peru, IN; A brother Glenn Householder and wife Sharon of Corinth, Texas, 6 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and an overabundance of extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers Ronald "Lefty" Siders and Eddie Siders. Visitation will be from 2-7 Tuesday, December 3 at the Miami Nation of Indian Tribal Complex, Located at 80 W. 6th Street, Peru, IN. Funeral will be held on Wednesday December 4th at 1:00 pm at the Miami Nation of Indian Complex, with burial at Godfroy Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Miami Nation of Indiana Lora Siders Fund.
