After a year in the Airborne Command Post, he transferred back to teaching at Hickman Air Force Base until his return to Barksdale Air Force Base where he continued to teach before being assigned again to the Strategic Air Command Alternate Airborne Command Post.

A realignment of the Airborne Command Post in 1970 sent him to Grissom Air Force Base, Bunker Hill, Indiana where he retired in Division, Indiana Department of Natural Resources at the North Regional Headquarters, Peru, Indiana until his retirement in March of 1996. After his second retirement, Fred and his wife Sandra moved to Green Valley, Arizona where Fred volunteered as a Docent for many years at the Titan Missile Museum.
