Frederick Lewis Boettjer, 86, formerly of Peru, Indiana, and most recently residing in Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 10th, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service.
Fred was known for his big heart and unforgettable sense of humor. He had a way of lighting up every room he entered and never hesitated to take care of those around him. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a laugh, Fred made everyone feel like family.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960 and later built a long career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked from the late 1961 until his retirement in 1993.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife (Ruth Ann Boettjer), his parents (H.H. and Berniece Boettjer), 4 brothers and 1 sister, and 2 grandsons (Jason Forsythe and Scott Hoback).
He is survived by his loving children, Teresa Irby, Kathy (Marc) Agnoli, Scott (Michelle) Boettjer, and Melissa Hoback; 8 grandchildren, Joe (Heather) Agnoli, Missy (Clayton) Chavous, Fred (Jenifer) Boettjer, Alan (Ashley) Agnoli, Kayla (Jason) Chalfant, Leah Hoback; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He will be remembered always for his kindness, humor, and the unwavering love he showed to his family and friends.
The viewing & memorial service to celebrate Fred’s life will be held at Flowers-Leedy in Peru, Indiana on 5/19/25 from 11am-1pm with the service immediately following.
