Frederic Alston Powell

Frederic Alston Powell, 87, of Sun City, Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Fred was born April 1,1935 in Minnesota to Dale and Helen Powell. Fred met and married Shirley June (Helm) in June 1955 in Salina, Kansas.

Fred is survived by his twin sister, Fran Slaten; older sister, Donna Gill; 2 children Lezlee Hentges and Serena Brown; and 6 step-children: Mary Goure, Bill Goure, Rose Goure, Kathy Shank, Connie Mofield, and Linda Robinson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley; brother Dale Powell; nephew Lance Powell; niece Kari Slaten; step-son John; grandsons Rodney and Ryan; his parents, and grandparents.

Fred worked for Consolidated Freightways in Seattle, Washington, where he was a short haul truck driver and married to Marie Powell. Before that he was a Banker in Durango, Colorado, and served in the United States Air Force in Long Beach, California. He retired at an early age whereas then he and wife Janet Powell moved to Peru, Indiana where he worked for Miami Trucking. They enjoyed retired life and did some traveling.

Fred was a stranger to no one. His kind and caring soul, the twinkle in his blue eyes, and his genuine smile are the many things he will be remembered for.
