Eva May (Layman) Gilbert

Eva May (Layman) Gilbert, 101, passed away at her residence on Friday, August 19, 2022.

She was born in Peru, Indiana on February 8, 1921 to Jonathan and Laura (Swoverland) Layman. Eva married Vern Gilbert on April 5, 1945. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Eva enjoyed sewing and crocheting many doll clothes and various crafts. She was a great cook and loved to read. After retirement, Eva and her husband spent their summers in Utah gardening and fishing.

She is survived by her sons; Dennis “Denny” (Debbie) Gilbert of Rockvale, Tennessee and William “Bill” (Debbie) Gilbert of Peru, Indiana, 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Eva is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Diana Sharp, brother, Zainard Layman, and sisters, Martha Kathryn Bundy and Zella Greer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10am with Chaplain Mark Bardsley officiating. Burial will take place at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
