Dorothy Range Obituary

Dorothy Mae Range

March 28, 1937 – May 18, 2024

Dorothy was born in Elizabethton Tennessee; where she attended Elizabethton High School and was Valedictorian 1955. Dorothy was awarded a scholarship to East Tennessee State College. She chose to move to Peru Indiana with her parents, sister Mary and brother Ernie.

Dorothy worked at G.C.Murphy as a salesperson until they discovered her scholarship included math skills and they moved her into the accounting office. She then worked with Dr Raymond Hopper OD at his Optometrist practice for 32 years.  While working for Dr. Hopper, Dorothy was one of the first single women in Peru to purchase a home without co-signers. When she left Dr. Hopper’s office, she started Dorothy’s Spectique in the home she bought. She helped her clients with their eye-wear needs until her vision failed her due to macular degeneration. She closed her shop at the end of 2022.

Dorothy was a member of the Peru Grace Brethren Church, Wabash Valley Paraoptometric Association, Professional Businesswomen’s Club, Washington Jollyettes Home Economics Club and Miami County Historical Society. She donated regularly to Grace College Winona Lake, Indiana. She collected angles and jewelry especially Black Hills Gold.

Dorothy was generous to all her “children’, a devout Christian who had made her peace with the Lord.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Marcella Range, sister Mary Geiselman brother Ernest Range and stepbrothers Albert, RL and Ovie Range.
