Don Whittaker Obituary

Don Royce Whittaker,(55), of Peru, Indiana passed away on February 14, 2023 at home.

He was born October 29, 1967, in Kokomo, Indiana to Earl Whittaker and Sharon (McConnell) Whittaker.

On November 28, 1987 Don married his highschool sweetheart Patricia Ann (Burns) Whittaker, she survives. From that union came 3 loving children and one very special grandson. Don and Patti shared 35 years of lifes adventures. 

Following a deep family tradition Don joined the U.S. Army on January 6, 1988. Don proudly served our country on active duty for 8 years before transferring to the Indiana National Guard where he served an additional 12 years. Don served 1 year in Korea and 1 year in Afghanistan during the Global War on Terrorism. Reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class(E-7)As a proud Non-commissioned officer Don was a leader everyone looked up to.  During his 20 years of service he received many awards and accommodation's.

He has been employed at Thermafiber of Wabash for the past 10 years. He loved to fish, having too numerous stories to share. He passed his fishing secrets on to his favorite Grandson so the next generation can continue the hobby. He has been active with the online gaming community for many years, playing World of Warcraft and many other games. Don had a passion for building and fixing computers. Don was a family man first, everything else came second to him. His love of his children and only grandson Braidan was shown in so many ways. Forever grateful for being Braidan's first best friend, his passing will be felt by Braidan in many ways.

In addition to his Wife, he is survived by his father Earl Whittaker, Santa Fe, Indiana,  children, Brittany Whittaker, Peru, Indiana, Tiffany Whittaker, Peru, Indiana, Brandon Whittaker(Marcus), Elwood, Indiana.

Also surviving are four brothers, Chuck(Kris)Allison, Elkart, Indiana, David(Kathy) Allison, Elkart, Indiana,  Dwayne(Amy) Whittaker, Logansport, Indiana, James Whittaker, Santa Fe, Indiana; He is also survived by one Grandson, Braidan Holloway, Peru, Indiana; Brother-in-law Ryan(Libby) Hake, Rochester, Indiana,  Sister-in-law Katherine Burns, Peru, Indiana,  and Three nieces, Alexis, Ellen, Addyson; one nephew Elijah. Honorary grandchildren, Karigan Closser, Peru,Indiana, Hunter Housouer, Peru, Indiana; great-grandchild Zaidyn Closser, Peru, Indiana.   

Don is preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Visitation will be held Monday February 20,2023 from 4PM-7PM at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. Funeral Services will be Tuesday February 21st at 1PM at the Funeral home. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru. Military rites will be provided by Miami County military rites. Celebration of Life Dinner will take place after the service at Fraternal Order of Eagles, 56 N Grant St. Peru, In.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help with funeral arrangements.
