Denise Ulshafer, age 69, of Peru entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at her home. She was born March 22, 1952, in Oak Park, Illinois to Newton Moore and Marilyn Moore (King). Shortly after being born in Illinois, Denise moved to Peru, Indiana where she lived the rest of her life. Denise was only child and graduated from Peru High School. She was employed at Dukes Memorial Hospital as a CNA, and later, was a cashier at the Grissom AFB Commissary till they closed in 1996. She married Robert Ulshafer on November 28, 1970. Throughout their almost 51 years together, Denise managed her home.
To Denise her family was everything. She spent many hours worrying about everyone and making sure they were taken care of. She is survived survived by her two daughters Amy (Wendell) Blankenship of Peru, and Anne (Jay) Eckelbarger of Peru; eight grandchildren Mallory Nichols (Tyler) of Peru, Mackenzi Brewer of Kokomo, Jacob Eckelbarger of Peru, Trinity Eckelbarger of Carmel, Elijah Eckelbarger of Kokomo, Matthew Eckelbarger (Rachel) of Atlanta, GA, Cooper Blankenship (Caitlyn) of Peru, Logan Blankenship of Peru; two great-grandchildren Lainey Sharp of Kokomo, Ella Blankenship of Peru.
Denise loved cooking and searching new recipes. Everyone thought of her as their mother or grandmother. She welcomed everyone in her home and loved planning and hosting dinners and get togethers. She was known for her famous potato salad. She loved crafts, gardening and birds. She had several bird feeders and loved watching them in her sunroom where she would often see deer. She enjoyed weekly shopping outings where she made close friends. She also had two Yorkies, Pepper and Minnie who she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held at Flowers Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana, on Thursday, July 8, 2021 for close friends and family. Viewing will be held at 2:00 pm with service following at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
