Debra Lyn (Sowards) Bonner, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at approximately 10:10 a.m. in her own home in Kokomo, Indiana, in the loving care of her husband after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born September 30, 1954, in Geneva, New York and was the only child to Donald H. and Donna P. (Patterson) Sowards. She married Robert A. Bonner on January 23, 1995, in Peru, Indiana, and shared 28 years of marriage, and he survives.
Deb found her joy and purpose in her work as the secretary of Loree Brethren Church where she attended and was closely involved. She was also very passionate about genealogy, and in her free time, she loved to do research and visit cemeteries to piece together the ancestry of her own family and that of many others. Even so, what Deb lived for the most was her living family. She joyfully served as the foundation of her family, bringing everyone together and loving them unconditionally. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Traci Lyn (Turpen) Graham.
In addition to her husband, Deb is survived by her children, Donald Bonner and fiancé, Shelby Friend, and Jim Turpen and spouse, Jen (Petty) Turpen; grandchildren, Katelyn (Dunham) Green and spouse, Garrett Green, Phillip T. Dunham, Brady “Bri” Dunham, and Brandon Dunham and spouse, Lillian (Smith) Dunham; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Dunn, Lakelynn Smith, Ace Dunham, and Lillith and Valerie Dunham.
Visitation will be held at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The funeral service will follow the next morning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Steve Zerbe officiating. The burial will take place at Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Logansport, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loree Brethren Church to help fund their history room.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.flowersleedyallen.com.
