He plowed many garden plots in and around the city for extra money. He met his wife Shirley Irene (Malott) in October of 1954. She was only 16 years old and on May 29, 1955, they were married at St Paul’s EUB Church of Peru. He left the City of Peru Utilities in March of 1969 for the Utilities Dept. at GAFB Civil Service until his retirement there in March of 1997 as an Electrical Installation and Maintenance Supervisor - again working in all kinds of weather and conditions, keeping the runway lights working, and even proving that he could stand on his head on the water tower at GAFB.
