Connie Joyce (Stuber) Wooten

In loving memory of Connie Joyce Stuber Wooten, August 2, 1936 through July 24, 2026.

Connie Joyce Stuber Wooten, born on August 2, 1936 to Vern and Violet (Miller) Stuber, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 24th. Her greatest joy was knowing Jesus Christ and her unwavering love for the Lord as evident in every aspect of her life.

Connie‘s legacy is one of steadfast faith, selfless service, unconditional love, and joyful generosity. She lived as Christ called her to live, loving God, loving people and faithfully serving others. Though her family and friends will deeply miss her presence, they rejoice in the assurance that she has heard the words, “well done, good and faithful servant”. 

Family was one of Connie‘s greatest blessings. She was married to Harry Wooten for 43 years before he proceeded her in death. She was a grateful and loving mother of seven children (Timothy Wooten, Tammy Pence, Stephen Wooten, Teresa Wooten, Tracy Jones, Stanley Wooten and Tina Daniels), grandmother of 24 grandchildren, and great grandmother of 34 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Nancy Hostetler and brother Billy Stuber.

Some of her grandchildren‘s most treasured memories were the simple moments spent with Grandma Connie during the summertime. She delighted in taking them out into the pasture for picnics where laughter, stories and love were shared while surrounded by the family cows. Those precious afternoons reflected the warmth and joy that she brought into the lives of those she loved. 

“Grandma Connie” was the title she earned far beyond her own family. Her love for people was unmistakable, even to someone meeting her for the very first time. She welcomed everyone with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a caring heart that made each person feel valued and loved. She truly never met a stranger. 

As faithful and devoted member of Emmanuel Fellowship Church, Connie joyfully served in many capacities. She was the church pianist, greeter, prayer warrior, bookkeeper, Sunday school teacher and attendance recorder among many other unsung duties.  She faithfully used her gifts and talents for the Lord. More than anything, she loves sharing the Hope only found in Jesus Christ. 

Whether a lifelong friend or someone she had just met, Connie never missed an opportunity to witness by giving away “Our Daily Bread” devotionals, gospel tracts, or asking “if you were to die today, do you know where you would spend eternity?”, always pointing others to the saving grace and love of her savior.

Connie devoted her life to caring for others. As a dedicated nurse, she ministered not only to the physical needs of those in her care, but also to their spiritual needs. She touched their hearts with kindness, compassion, and encouragement. 

One of her most enduring ministries was her service at Camp Emmanuel. She faithfully served as camp counselor and camp nurse for 69 years caring for generations of campers and staff. Beyond medical care, she offered comfort and stability, and she became especially known for her bedtime stories - filled with humor, warmth, and wisdom – that campers remembered long after leaving camp. She also served as a kindergarten through 12th grade School Nurse for 30 years at Maconaquah School Corporation.

Connie‘s life reminds us that the greatest legacy is not measured by accomplishments, but by the love we share, the faith we live, and the lives we touch. Her memory will forever be treasured, her example will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her love will live on in the countless hearts she so faithfully served.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 2pm on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Garden Gate Greenhouse, 3415 E. 500 S. Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Rod Ruberg and Pastor Brad Bahler officiating. Interment will take place at Rankin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to any of Connie’s supported missions that were near and dear to her heart.
