Charles R. Hart Jr.

 Charles “Charlie” Robert Hart Jr., 80, of Peru, passed away at Dukes Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

Charlie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Charles R. and Lydel Hart on December 22, 1941. He worked for Ford Motor Company for many years as an engineer specializing in steering columns. He was highly regarded because of his knowledge and expertise.  Charlie was also a champion bowler. He bowled many perfect games. He loved cars, especially the Ford mustang, and enjoyed racing with his brother at the Bunker Hill drag strip. Charlie was also a 53 year Mason. He was a generous, kind and loving man that touched many lives in his own special, quiet way.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Susan (Miller) Gasaway Hart. Also surviving is a daughter, Lynette (Tad) Grafton of Indianapolis; step-children, Todd Gasaway, Rochelle (Mike) Bowyer, Michelle (Rex)Harvey all of Peru;  grandchildren, Colleen Grafton, Valerie Grafton, Ashley Shropshire, TyAnne Evans, Savannah Harvey, Rex Harvey II, Abigail Bowyer, Emily Bowyer, and 8 great grandchildren.  Charlie is also survived by a nephew, Eugene Hart, and  great nephew, Rylan Hart of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Glenda Sue (Kanzler) Hart, and brother Robert L. Hart.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  A masonic service will be provided by the Acton Masonic Lodge. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Randy Shinolt officiating. Burial will take place at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton, Indiana.
