Carroll Jean Prather, 90, Bunker Hill, died at 10:35am on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at her home in Bunker Hill.
She was born on November 15, 1930 in Miami County, the daughter of John B. Prather and Mamie E. (Snyder) Prather. Carroll was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School in 1948, and attended all 12 years there. She went to Ball Memorial School of Nursing and received her RN license in 1954. She worked at Ball Memorial Hospital from 1954 to 1956. She also worked in hospitals in Long Beach, Calif., New York City, Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo from 1969 to 1971, and Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru from 1982 to 1996 and retired at that time after 42 years as a registered nurse. Carroll was a very caring and compassionate nurse and her patients loved her. She was also an identical twin. She and her identical twin sister, Carmen, had a lot of fun confusing others as to who was who throughout their lives. She was a former member of AORN in California and former member of Grace Methodist Church in Long Beach, Calif; High Street Methodist Church in Muncie, and Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Carroll always loved Youth Fellowship Church Camp at Epworth Forest at Lake Webster, and church choir at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. She loved watching IU basketball and the Colts on TV, keeping up with current events, and travel. She had traveled in most all of the United States including a special tour guided trip to Hawaii in 1965.
Survivors include her daughter Debra L. (Gerit) Slikkers, Bloomington; nieces, Renda Harmon, Peru, and Babs Prather, Tennessee; nephews, Gary Meek, Franklin, IN, Donald (Joan) Prather, Jr., Arizona, Rex (Susan) Prather, Bloomington, and Eric (Jessica) Prather, Florida. She was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Carmen Joyce Prather, a sister, Mary F. Meek, and a brother, Donald E. Prather, Sr.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill. Friends may visit with the family from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Allen Funeral Home, 136 South Elm Street, Bunker Hill, Indiana. Services will be at the Allen Funeral Home at 11am on Friday, January 8, 2021, with Pastor Evan Strong officiating. A private family burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Galveston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department at 339 W. Pearl Street, Bunker Hill, IN 46914.
