Carl Childress passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Lafayette, Indiana.
Carl Junior Childress was born October 20, 1935 in West Point, Indiana, to Glenn Harrison Childress and Thelma Grace (Lovell) Childress.
Carl served 8 years in the National Guard and was married to Carolyn for 59 years. Carl worked for Postan Brick Co., Harrison Steel, and Sunoco Gas Station in Attica. He and his wife lived in Attica for many years. Carl and Carolyn were active in Civil Defense. They moved Peru, Indiana in 1978. Carl worked for Container Corporation in Wabash, Indiana. He always loved helping others. He enjoyed being outside riding his bicycle or motorcycle and doing yard work for his self and the elderly. He liked relaxing on his front porch with his wife and their dog Hannah, family and grandchildren with a glass of tea.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Sue Childress. His parents Glenn and Thelma Childress. 3 brothers- Jessie E. Milton, Walter G. Childress and William Childress. 5 sisters- Bernice Childress (Toy), Ellen Milton (Black)(Smith), Ethel Milton (Squires), Mary Lucille Childress (Beaver), Pauline Childress (Brown).
Survived by his children – Kenneth Ray Childress, Katherine Sue (Childress) Helm (Husband Ronald) and Kevin J. Childress (Wife Juli). Grandchildren – Kenneth Ray Childress, Kyle Childress, Lori Marie (Childress) Smith, Kody Childress, Mitchell Childress, Jennifer (Childress) Alvarez, Mason Bowen, Miranda Townsend, Christopher L. Helm, Jonathan L. Helm, Robert B. Helm, and Sierra Helm. Several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Also survived by 4 sisters- Virginia Grace (Childress) Fletcher, Eleanor Louise Childress, Gladys Allene Childress and Rozella Marie (Childress) Lyles. 2 brothers- Dewey Raymond Childress (Wife Beverly) and Perry Robert Childress (Wife Bonnie).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 3pm with Pastor Tony Winter officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
