Carl Statzer Obituary

Carl Chalmer Statzer, 82, of Peru passed away early Wednesday morning, March 1, 2023 at his home. He was born on November 1, 1940 in Eoila, Kentucky to Bryant Martin and Beatrice (Collins) Statzer. Carl moved with his family from Eoila, Kentucky to Wabash, Indiana at the age of 16 and lived in the Wabash/Miami County area for the remainder of his life.

Carl enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing and hunting. He had previously been a member of the Peru Bass Masters and was a volunteer on the Denver Fire Department for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking and made many loved pieces for his children and grandchildren over the years. Carl worked at many jobs over the years but his main profession was in manufacturing supervision. His last job was at Gencorp in Wabash, Indiana before retiring in 2002. He married Rita Jo Pitman on April 7, 1961 in Chili, Indiana. She passed away on January 9, 2000. After Rita’s passing, his companion for his remaining years was Judy Sutton Baker, who is loved and adored by all of Carl’s family.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 1 brother, Charles Statzer of Wabash, Indiana, and 1 granddaughter, Brandi Worley of Peru, Indiana. Carl is survived by 1 son, Ron Statzer and wife, Carol, 1 daughter, Becky Coakley, and husband Jeremy, all of Denver, Indiana, 7 grandchildren; Cody (Ashley) Statzer of Macy, Indiana, Kyle (Sheila) Statzer of Denver, Indiana, Cassandra (Jay) Binkley of Illinois, Andrew (Tiffany) Worley of Peru, Indiana, Branden (Jennifer) Worley of Alabama, Lindsey Coakley of Spokane Washington, Lacey Coakley of Denver, Indiana, 2 special grandchildren who stole his heart, twins Elizabeth and David Baker of North Manchester, Indiana, and 9 great grandchildren; Malachi Worley, Samuel Worley, Owen Worley, Jace Worley, Xandure Binkley, Sebastian Binkley, and Ramzeigh Belcher.

Visitation will be held from 11am to 2pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating. Burial will take place at Westlawn Cemetery in Denver, Indiana.
